New Delhi: Change is constant . Thats a maxim that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) seems to be taking to heart. After an attempt to fix accountability by the DDA top brass earlier this month, the land agency is now turning its sight on to its projects.
As a beginning, it has promised to make over 5,000 new houses available to the public this year. The good news is that these flats may not be the typical gloomy houses of old but instead, have a new design. Said a senior DDA official, For some time now, we have been thinking of upgrading the existing design of flats by introducing new elements, like a better designed kitchen as well as removing the steel frames of the window panes etc. However , there have been no major design changes in the DDA flats till date. But that could now change with the land agency mulling adding new features as well as re-designing the basic design for the new set of flats to come up.
The proposal has been made though no decision has been taken as yet. It is expected to come through this year however, added the official
For Delhiites, it would be a change that many have been looking forward to. And it would coincide with its plan to launch a 5,000 more flats this year, apart from the 42,000 flats that it has already been commissioned to develop over the next four years.
Said DDA spokesperson, Neemo Dhar, This is besides the 15,000 flats that will be available as part of the insitu development of slums that will be undertaken this year. Dhar however refused the comment on whether the 5,000 flats were part of a new housing scheme that the land agency will offer in 2010.
The mode of disposal is yet to be decided, she added.
The decision to offer the set of 5,000 flats was taken recently by the DDA as part of its budget approval for the year 2010-11 . At the meeting, LG Tejinder Khanna also asked the land agency to upgrade the central business districts like Nehru Place, Bhikaji Cama Place, CBD Shahdara and others, utilising its own funds. Thats not all. A new bio-diversity foundation was also set up to concentrate on the green works in the city. Interestingly, the DDA has also taken note of incidents of accidents concerning children in its parks in the past year. It has asked concerned officers to designate a separate play area in large parks and put up a steel mesh around the area as a safety measure.
And to ensure that the development work is uniform, the DDA has also asked senior officials from its engineering division in charge of various zones to draw up a proposal for the same within the next three months and to ensure that the upgradation is visible within the next six.
In the budget, the DDA has set aside Rs 1,470 crores towards building houses for residents, with another Rs 359 crore earmarked for building more flyovers, like at Andrews Ganj and Mundka etc. Health clubs, sports facilities and fitness centres are other areas that will get DDAs attention this year.
The land agency has also set aside Rs 490 crore for the CWG.
